As from 1st April 2006 the former Fisherrow Community
Centre, run by a local voluntary Management Committee, became The Fisherrow
Centre. The Committee dissolved its Association in favour of a Company
Limited by Guarantee run by local people as Trustees. The Fisherrow Trust,
as the Company is now known, is also registered as a Scottish Charity. |
 |
|
On the same day, the Trust signed a 99 year lease with
East Lothian Council to take over responsibility of the two former Fisherrow
School buildings to continue the community centre programme of classes,
activities and services. Office accommodation is also provided for voluntary
organisations. The current tenants are the Scottish Association of Mental
Health and East Lothian Out of School Care Network |
 |
|
Before its dissolution, the Fisherrow Community Centre Management Committee
raised funds sufficient to renovate the windows of both buildings and to
repair the roof, rainwater pipes and stonework of the main building. The
following funders made this possible. |
 |
|
- Forward Scotland (Transforming Your Space)
- Virador Credits (Aggregates Tax)
- The Tudor Trust
- Cruden Foundation
- Local Capital Grants Scheme
- WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd)

The
new gas central heating system is now up and running in the annexe building. Many
thanks to the contractors Connaught and Sitec for the minimum of disruption
to all our classes and groups. This was made possible by a grant of
£39,500 towards the total cost from the Musselburgh Common Good Fund.

Thanks to funding awarded by Viridor Credits and
WREN,
a new gas heating system has also now been installed in the main
building. Work has just been completed, again carried out by Sitec.
The Trust will now concentrate on plans and funding to begin
renovations in the currently dis-used part of the building, hopefully
starting early in the new year. |

Work has now started on the dis-used part of the
main building. The first stage, which is hoped to be completed by the
end of the
summer, will bring another three rooms into use, and also an
additional disabled toilet. |
| June 2011
 |
|
Construction work has now been completed to enable
use of three new rooms on the ground floor of the main building. The Trustees will
now look at funds available to continue upstairs.
